The Charity Governance Code represents a standard of good governance practice to which all charities should aspire. The 2017 Code identifies 7 key areas that all charities should follow:
These areas are leadership; integrity; decision making, risk and control; board effectiveness; diversity; openness and accountability; all underpinning organisational purpose.
All of the above areas are not optional extras, they are standards that all charities should read, follow and apply proportionately to their circumstances. This means that smaller churches are not expected to comply as thoroughly as larger churches.
